This connection transfers emails from a recipient list in Boldem to Google Ads audiences using BigQuery.
Connecting Boldem to BigQuery
- Sign in to your account in the Boldem app.
- In the left menu select Settings and click Connections
- Click the + New connection button.
- Select BigQuery.
- Next, enter Project ID, dataset ID, table ID for the recipient list and JSON credentials to connect to your Google BigQuery account.
- You can get these details after signing in to Google Cloud Console. In the top-left corner, click the ≡ icon and select BigQuery.
- To create a new project, click Select a project in the top-left corner, in the new window click New Project in the top-right corner and then enter or edit the Project name and Project ID (the name cannot be changed later) – confirm by clicking Create – copy the Project ID into Boldem’s Project ID field.
- To activate the account, add a payment card for activation – ☰ Google Cloud – Billing – My billing accounts – Add billing account – Agree & continue – fill out/update Payments profile and Payment method and link the account to a project.
- To create a new dataset, click ☰ Google Cloud, select BigQuery, in the Explorer section click the three dots next to your project ID and choose Create dataset, enter a Dataset ID (dataset name), set Location type: Region, Region: europe-central2 (Warsaw), confirm by clicking Create dataset in the bottom left, and the dataset will appear in the Explorer with a square-with-dots icon – copy the dataset name into Boldem’s Dataset ID field.
- To create a Service Account and generate JSON credentials click on ☰ Google Cloud – IAM & Admin – Service Accounts, + Create service account – Service account name: boldemintegration – Create and continue – Select a role: BigQuery Admin – Continue (Grant users access to this service account optional – leave blank) – Done
- If you already have a Service account, click the three dots next to it under Actions – Manage keys – Add key – Create new key – Key type: JSON – Create (the key will be automatically downloaded in JSON format) – copy the file contents into the JSON Credentials field.
- In the Table ID for recipient list field, enter the name of the table that BigQuery will automatically create and populate with recipients from Boldem – the name must not contain diacritics, special characters, spaces, or begin with a number.
- From the Recipient list dropdown, select the Boldem list you want to transfer to BigQuery/Google Ads.
- Click Test connection.
- Click Register connection.
- At the bottom, in the Activate connection section, select the Active option and confirm by clicking Save in the top-right corner.
- Recipients from Boldem are uploaded to BigQuery within 15 minutes and then updated in BigQuery every 15 minutes.
Google Ads integration with BigQuery
- In your Google Ads account, click Tools – Shared library – Audience Manager in the left-hand menu.
- In the top left, click the blue circle with the white + symbol, then click + Customer list.
- Data source: Connect new data source – Google BigQuery – Direct connection – Continue.
- Select data type – Data type selection: Email addresses, phone numbers, or mailing addresses – Next
- Select data – Data selection for import – Project* – name of the project in BigQuery, Dataset* – name of the dataset in BigQuery, Table* – name of the table in BigQuery
- Allow access – Apply – Next
- Map fields – Source data field (Identifier field): email for Google field: Email address – Next
- Review – 1) Update schedule – Edit schedule – set daily/weekly updates of the recipient list from BigQuery to Google Ads within a preferred time window – 2) Member update method – Change update method – Replace existing list members with a new customer list – Save – Finish
- New customer list – fill in Audience segment name, Customer type and more, Connections – Edit connection – Import schedule – Edit schedule – check the Also run now option to immediately upload the recipient list – Save – Save and continue – Done
- After uploading, check the data – open the audience you created – click the three dots in the top right – Edit list – Connections – Manage – at the bottom, in the Launch section check the Status to make sure the number in the Imported rows column matches and that there are no entries in the Rows with errors column.
Note: For a segment to be eligible for targeting, it must contain at least 1,000 matching customers; otherwise campaigns will not be shown. For audiences created via a direct BigQuery connection, numbers are visible in Audience Manager in the Size columns (Search Network, YouTube, Display Network, Gmail Campaign) when linked with more than 100 Google accounts.
